2013 Porsche 911 Carrera

What you’re looking at is the all new Porsche 911 Carrera. A total legend of a car that excels in both performance and flexibility. The 911 begins around $83,000 and comes equipped with 350 horsepower. For those interested in something extra potent, there is now a Carrera S with a 50 horsepower bump–unfortunately with $15,000 extra in cost too. Nearly $100k isn’t completely absurd when you understand what exactly this car is. The 911 S nearly touches supercar territory with a 0-60 mph time of about 3.7 seconds and a top speed close to 190 mph. There’s no doubt this car is fast, however, not completely mind-blowing numbers for Porsche.

The most eye-opening ingredient in this Carrera is the new 7-speed manual transmission. Last year, Porsche decided to create something never-seen-before by installing a seventh gear in their manual setup. The 911 is the first production car ever to offer a manual transmission with seven speeds. The reasons for the extra gear are to provide better highway fuel economy and to keep the car calm and steady at high speeds. Fuel economy is rated for 20 in the city and 28 on the highway. These ratings aren’t completely ground-breaking until you consider we’re talking about a 400 horsepower 2-door sports car.
