Having started in the city of Urbana-Champaign with the original intent to only cater to the University of Illinois, it’s important for UPC to revisit those roots and serve our local community from time to time. In addition to bringing you interviews with notable artists throughout the music sphere, we’re kicking off a short profile series highlighting the preferences and tastes of individuals from our local scene who know what’s poppin’. This includes everyone from students, athletes, and local DJ’s.

To kick it all off we linked up with Jake Poliszczuk, better known as DJ DA$H. The Chi-town native took some time to sit with UPC and share his thoughts on style, music, and even the honeys of Champaign. Whether you see him on the 1s and 2s at the local bars, or going through a 30-rack like water with his Sigma Phi Epsilon brothers, DA$H has the epitome of a poppin’ lifestyle.

UPC: Best track to spin at the bars right now?

DA$H: Thrift Shop – Macklemore ft. Ryan Lewis.

UPC: Biggie or 2Pac?

DA$H: Biggie. For sure.

UPC: Freshest pair of kicks in the closet?

DA$H: Jordan Retro 6.

UPC: Describe your music taste in 3 words.

DA$H: Turn-up, Bangers, and Throwbacks.

UPC: Best part about being a DJ in Champaign?

DA$H: I get to be the life of the party, I have met so many great people (girls), and having perks for my all my friends and fans is rewarding.

UPC: Where did “DJ DA$H” come about?

DA$H: Haha, good question. The name never had any story behind it, it just rolls off the tongue when you say it. So I stuck with it.

UPC: Which store in Chicago has the dopest clothes?

DA$H: Dope.Boy.Magic Clothing  1104 W. 18th St. Check their website. Tell ’em DA$H sent you.

UPC: Best Album of 2012? Best Mixtape?

DA$H: For album it’s a tie between Future’s “Pluto” and 2 Chainz “B.O.A.T.S.” For mixtape it’s “Lap of Lux” by Sir Michael Rocks.

You can keep up with DA$H via Twitter and see him spinning at Kams every Friday from 10pm-2am, as well as The High Dive on Thursday’s for any Greek exchanges.
