Robot Req1

For our second Campus Requisites installment, we stopped to talk with UPC photographer Robert M. to see what he believes is essential to have while walking around Urbana-Champaign. Robert, hailing from Lincolnwood Village of Chicago, IL, is a Graphic Design major/Business minor by day but shreds the streets by night skateboarding, making music, and photographing. Armed with his Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone, Korg Volca Beat Machine, and a Nikon EM Series 35mm SLR Camera, Robert is ready at any given moment to create dope music and capture the inspirational moments around him.

From his Supreme Camp Hats, Studio Hair Gel, to his Rip N Dip Button Up, Robert’s style embodies the underground mentality. Constantly looking through Rip N Dip lookbooks and Thrasher Magazines, he brings together his high sense of fashion with an urban consciousness in hopes of one day working for a magazine or as an art director for a major advertising company. Skating to class or prepping for a Club Tennis match, you will most likely catch him rocking to the Misfits, the Ramones, Parquet Courts or getting hyped to Fergestein, ASAP Rocky, Key!, and Bodega BAMZ. Take a look below and see what Robert had to say about his requisites.

Thrasher Magazine – February 2013: “My favorite issue of the most recent Thrasher Magazines – the King of The Road 2013 issue. This featured an annual competition Thrasher Magazine holds for skate brands in a two week on the road challenge.”

Supreme Canvas Camp Cap Sprint/Summer 2013: “Out of all my camp caps, I love my black dotted camp cap from the first S/S drop this year because it goes with just about anything.”

UPC Sticker and Supreme Sticker: “No comment necessary.”

Korg Volca Beats Analog Drum Machine: Being a music artist I also find this piece as an essential because it is the most mobile and interactive piece of equipment I own. I can put on a show and create beats at any given moment.”

L’Oreal Studio Hair Gel: “ I love to stay styled no matter what – anything to keep me from flicking my hair across my forehead like Justin Beiber or Ryan Shecks.”

Nokia Lumia 1020 Windows Phone: “With a 41 megapixel camera, it lets me take amazing pictures on the go. I’ve been rockin’ with the Windows OS for about 2 years now, and I only have good things to say about the products and their interfaces.”

Nikon EM Series 35mm SLR Camera: “I love this camera for its compact size and definition. I love my film camera collection, but this is the one SLR I chose to take to school. I have not regretted it one bit.”

Rip N Dip Sinner Button Down Shirt: “Probably my favorite clothing company, based out of California. I love having Rip N Dip on me or with me at all times. Constructing skateboarding clothes that tend to use vices in their graphics, Rip N Dip plays a humorous role in the higher fashioned street wear.”

Rip N Dip Lookbook:  “I always have this mini lookbook in my backpack- giving me a pickup or a sense of inspiration whenever I look through it.”
